T for Toyol by tohdaryl T for Toyol by tohdaryl
A Toyol or Tuyul is a mythical spirit in Malay mythology of South-East Asia (notably Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore).

It is sometimes called the “Kwee Kia” in Hokkien. In Thailand, they are called Koman-tong (Male) and Koman-lay (Female). In Philippines they have a similar child spirit called the “tiyanak”. InCambodia they are called “Cohen Kroh”. In South Korea called “Do Yeol”. It is a small child spirit invoked by a dukun (Indonesian shaman) or pawang (Malay witch doctor) from a dead humanfetus using black magic.

Isn't this the same spirit that was incorporated into the plot of the horror/comedy film Dead and Breakfast?

Nice work sir, thank you for posting this

Hi. my name is Jovencio Jimenez and Im a researcher about Philippine mythology.. I would just like to ask if you could participate in a survey that I made for my thesis, this involves the effect of an innovation of Philippine Mythology, by applying illustration from culture mapping. "Culture mapping", a method created by the author to create distinction of the gods over other cultures. for more information you can visit my page at at…;

the survey only consists of 13 questions, and would take only 3-5 minutes of your time.

hoping for your response

In the folklore, it was said to steal things and does mischief. The witch doctor has the power over them and in return they have to feed the toyols blood.

Meanwhile, one hypothesis for the tiyanaks here is that they were aborted babies of perhaps long ago-- left to the forest. A possible reason: a baby conceived after a rape case.
